What Am I Doing Here?

This is my attempt to take one picture every day for an entire year. So far, so good . . . .

December 29, 2010

Reece got a disco globe for Christmas - now the kids can have dance parties in the basement.  We've been hearing the same Black Eyed Peas song play for a while, but its too cute to see this and the black light going in the basement.

December 28, 2010

Rachel got a s'more maker for Christmas, and made dessert for everyone.  As part of her gift she received chocolate graham crackers, strawberry marshmallows, and Hershey's chocolate.  The best s'mores you can get!

December 27, 2010

This was on the refrigerator for a week while I overlooked it!  To be fair, it was at the bottom of the door, and the word was oddly split.  I did notice the 'Mery Chris' before, but only when the door was opened.

December 25, 2010

Merry Christmas!

December 24, 2010

Corpse in a cup?  Ghost of Christmas future?  Popsicle of the Death?

December 23, 2010

This was a fun project - I had some glow-in-the-dark items and a black light.  It took a bit to get the true colors back out again.  Maybe I can come up with another project for the light . . .

December 22, 2010

We had a large mirror in our bathroom (the one that lost a wall of drywall), which ended up in the garage for the moment.  I set the camera to timed shot and got a shot of my car.  I wish I had washed it first, though - winter has not been kind.

December 21, 2010

This head has been seen before, but with a slight modification.  I added a new element - I cracked the ice with some hot water, then resealed with another coat.  I also created a new object in ice, but it wasn't frozen in time for this shoot.

December 19, 2010

Underneath the bathroom enclosure on the second floor.  Water was leaking behind the face plates in the bathtub.  Looks like there was a sudden rush of water, and ruined he drywall in the bathroom beneath.  Not a pretty site . . .

December 18, 2010

I finally thought of some way to incorporate twine and a baby doll.  We had leftover ham carcass parts, so I bound a baby body to a ham bone and laid it to rest with its head!  Merry Christmas!!

December 17, 2010

School Holiday Parties for the children.  They were standing together in the middle of the hall, talking about where things are located in the building.

December 15, 2010

He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake, He knows when you've been bad or good . . . .

He's gonna get you, for God's sake!!!!!

December 14, 2010

Not much of a shot . . . but it was late, and I want to post the school function separately.  Just a bit of zoom-out play with the kit lens.

December 13, 2010

It's a little snowman!  I love these little things!

December 12, 2010

There was a decent amount of snow today, but not enough for Reece to be able to pull Rachel in the sled.

December 11, 2010

This is the top of the kid's tree.  Notice that she is battle-ready with the candy cane of justice and the felt ornament of truth.

December 10, 2010

It's a rather poor picture of my PSP, with lots of pointless processing in Lightroom.  There's an element of sharpness that was quite accidental, though . . .

December 9, 2010

When the children were younger, we used to have a 'fall baby.'  This was a life-sized baby doll that Rachel received when she was 2 years old.  The doll scared her, so I used to sit it on ledges and the like and tip it over.  It would fall over, and usually land on its head.  Rachel would laugh a great big laugh.  When Reece was older, we introduced him to 'Fall Baby' and he loved it, too!

This is just a bit of homage to The Fall Baby!

December 8, 2010

Main character from the 'Santa's Marching Band' electronic bells.  It's a bit of animatronic magic for the holidays!

December 6, 2010

Be sure to pick up your 'The End Is Near' doll (Holiday Edition) at your local Aaack!!Mart . . . .

December 4, 2010

We finally put together the gingerbread house - it's usually an all day affair involving every scrap of candy that's not chocolate.  I took this photo by the back window go catch the light.

December 3, 2010

Allowance time!

December 2, 2010

One of my favorite photos - I took some donuts to work one morning, and I noticed that the sign was damaged as I was pulling out of the driveway.  Subliminal advertising, perhaps?

December 1, 2010

Elmo and the gang having themselves a sing-along!  Notice the absence of a 10 inch knife in Elmo's chest.  We're going wholesome here!

November 29, 2010

Captured this shot on top of the parking garage at OSU.  I planned to play with the depth of field in Photoshop, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.  I'm thinking this will be the last shot I get up here until springtime, unless we get a really good snow.  It's crazy cold up there - no buildings to block the wind!

November 28, 2010

This is my first attempt at macro.  I used my kit lens, then handheld my 50mm in reverse, holding the aperture blades open.  It was a clunky shot to catch, but I was happy with the end product.

November 27, 2010

I had to break down a turkey carcass after a meal.  A bit of black and white treatment and its a Swedish slasher film.

November 26, 2010

Remnants of fresh baked cookies.  I love this picture - It looks as if it was done in HDR, but it came out like this straight off the camera.

November 25, 2010

Oven pancakes are the best!  There are some recipes on the internet, but they are more complex than they need to be.  All you need is flour, eggs, milk, and butter.

November 24, 2010

Who doesn't love Ren and Stimpy!?  We have some large stuffed renditions - Stimpy Claus and a Rendeer.

November 23, 2010

The darkened door that leads to the other side.  Enter at your own peril. . .

November 22, 2010

Not my favorite picture.  By any means.  I wasn't feeling too hot, and Ididn't look at any themes.

November 21, 2010

We made something that involves egg whites, and had nothing to do with the extra yolks.  So I took a moment to dry them with a paper towel and photographed them in natural light from the window.

November 20, 2010

Christmas lights at the zoo - since they've swapped to the LED lights, it's harder to get a shot that I really love.  The overall effect is nice, though.

November 19, 2010

This was taken in the parking lot at work, looking up at some random tree.
I think I may have gone a bit heavy with the vignetting, though . . .

November 18, 2010

Our Christmas tree, but I gave it a black and white treatment in Lightroom.

November 17, 2010

On the way home, I pulled over to get a picture of the edge of the ravine on Weber Ave.

November 16, 2010

Slow picture day - it was raining, and I saw a bright red Mazda sitting in the parking lot on a rainy day.

November 15, 2010

The tree is up, and as a surprise, Jenny made a little Santa Baby!

November 14, 2010

Reece and I were taking pictures of the Christmas tree being constructed in the living room.  It was the first and last day with the old tripod - he pretty  much ate it for breakfast.

November 13, 2010

I took this walking through Home Depot.  This was the day I also left my Motorola Droid on a shelf and left the store.  I got it back, though . . .

November 12, 2010

Bert may not be as cool as Ernie, but he has the right idea about oatmeal.  I love my 50mm!

November 11, 2010

I had CS4 stitch together nine pictures to create the panoramic here.  I wish that I had  framed it a bit better, though . . .

November 10, 2010

I like taking pictures of the moon.  I think I'll need to get a teleconverter to get the kind of shot I really want, though.  My zoom maxes at 300mm, so I need to do a 100% crop to see the detail.

November 9, 2010

Reece and I were waiting for Rachel, so we wandered over to the BMW lot.  It really is a shame how ugly those things have gotten.  Even the Bentley sitting on the lot looked obnoxiously ugly.

November 8, 2010

Tall man dude playin' the geetar!

November 7, 2010

This picture was (is) completely overblown, but I played with it a bit in Lightroom.  When I burned the sky a bit, the edges to the blown leaves came in, giving a nice 3D effect.

November 6, 2010

Bottom section of Hoover Reservoir.  Nothing much else to say, except that if you're at the bottom and here a siren, you should get to higher ground.

November 5, 2010

Skeletons at my desk.  I used to have a small skeleton hanging from my rearview mirror in my car years ago.  Once, when I was pumping gas, an old lady was calling to me from across the station.
"Hey!" she called out twice.
"Hi!," I said back, after I figured that she was calling to me.
"That skeleton in your window!?!"
"Yes?"
 "Read your bible!!"
Don't acknowledge the crazies, folks!   This was a public service message.

November 4, 2010

It was late, and I liked the colors here.  I've been playing with Lightroom 3, and I'm liking the results.  Sharpening effects are easier (I think) in Photoshop, but I can go through a lot of settings pretty quickly.
