What Am I Doing Here?

This is my attempt to take one picture every day for an entire year. So far, so good . . . .

It may be time to get some new brakes - I've been playing with a 0.45x wide converter on my kit lens at 18mm.  It adds some really fun distortion and purple fringing that the kit lens can usually suppress.

Jenny has a rather cool, quasi-metro toaster that seemed to need to have its picture taken.

My favorite type of door latch - nothing much to say for it, though.  It was late, so I took to wandering around with my 50mm rime looking for subjects.

Picture of the shower.  I wanted to get a picture of moving water, and the bathtub was a good place to experiment with the flash.  If I had it to do again, I would deflect the flash upwards to eliminate the hard light there.  Overall, I'm still keen on the effect.

HAMLET:
Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy, and of such tasty, succulent BRAAINS!!!!!!!

July 29, 2010

I revisited some of my old subjects suing my homemade flash deflector and my 50mm lens.  This one was my favorite, but the black and white version was fairly spooky as well.

Chocolate waffles, layered with fresh strawberries and homemade whipped cream.  The whole thing  is topped with maple-agave syrup.  It was really GOOD!!

Rachel's little blue dog has a particular skill - it can do headstands!

Dessert from Father's Day.  Jenny made a perfect cheesecake with a choice of strawberry or chocolate toppings, both made from scratch.  Very nice separately, but amazing together!

June 20, 2010

A bit of a Father's Day dinner - chicken divan, corn on the cob, fresh green beans, and a bit of garlic bread.  For dessert, cheesecake!  I love my family!

Another poor stuffed animal in need of a good home.  This one was left abandoned at the kitchen table.

Another picture of the tea kettle.  This time, it was sitting by the window in natural light.  This one came out a lot cleaner than I would have hoped - still need to learn about using the flash, though.  I've been counting on a lot of luck to get the lighting I want.

Rachel stuck her Webkinz horse (named Firefly) in my shirt for tomorrow.

A big ole' hamburger with pickles, lettuce, and two big slices of tomato.  On the side, we have some wonderful macaroni salad, and a bit of asparagus. To wash it all down, Henry Weinhard's cream soda!

Somebody left a tiny remote controlled car in a corner of the room.  It just seemed like a nice subject for a picture!

Just a bit of a product shot.  I had another with a few Chanel bottles in the back, but they were all front-focused, so I had to let them go.

It's my favorite Pumpkin-Head Guy, out to do a bit of chef's work.  Or maybe just stab a pineapple with a really sharp knife!

Played with HDR a little bit -I had the flowers sitting by an open window with an aluminum top as a reflector.  In the back, I had a large piece of black fabric to null the background a bit.  I think I need to try the HDR on a proper landscape . . .

April 28, 2010

My wife let me use her as my subject today.  I need to learn portraits, and this one has been one of my best so far!  I was using my 50mm wide open, which is still my favorite lens.  I just love using the manual focus - it feels like I'm really taking the picture.  I won't knock auto-focus - it's a lot faster, but it's not as much fun!
